Today, this process serves as the biological basis for the\nhigh success rates of dental implants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Improvements in Osseointegration <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past several decades, scientists have learned a lot\nabout how the characteristics of a titanium post influence the speed at which it\nfuses with the jawbone. In the beginning, dental implants had a smooth surface.\nThese days, however, we know that bone likes to grow against an implant with a <em>rough<\/em>\nsurface. A roughened implant has more \u201csurface area\u201d than a smooth one, meaning\nmore bone tissue is in contact with the implant. Essentially, this has sped up\nthe average time of osseointegration from six months to about six weeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Does This Mean for Someone Who Wants Dental Implants?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, the \u201chealing time\u201d associated with dental\nimplants is the time it takes for osseointegration to occur, which may still\ntake several months, depending on the individual\u2019s ability to heal. During this\nfusion process, it\u2019s crucial that the implant not come into contact with\nanything that could cause it to move, as that could disturb osseointegration. It\nmight only form a connection in the soft tissue, which makes it loose and could\nresult in infection.
