What are Dental Sealants?

At one of your checkups, Dr. Saati might find that some of your back teeth could soon decay. Often put on molars and premolars, they act as barriers that keep out harmful bacteria.

Dental sealants are thin, liquid coatings applied to a tooth’s chewing surfaces. Typically made of resins and glass ionomers, they act as barriers that keep out harmful bacteria. Teeth that get them are thus less likely to suffer cavities and other forms of decay.

It’s quite simple for dentists (or hygienists) to apply dental sealants. After cleaning and drying your teeth, they’ll first paint a small bit of acid etching solution on their chewing surfaces. (This step roughens them up, ensuring the sealants can bond properly.) Our team will then paint the sealant material onto your enamel, where it directly bonds with the treated teeth. They’ll wrap up treatment by shining a curing light that hardens the sealants in place.

Who’s a Good Candidate for Dental Sealants?

Practically anyone would qualify for dental sealants. That said, some patients can (and do) make better treatment candidates.

Children are the most popular dental sealant candidates. To ensure their permanent back teeth don’t decay, most dentists suggest they receive treatment as soon as possible. The sealants would protect a youngster’s molars and premolars through the cavity-prone years (ages 6 through 14).

Of course, dental sealants can also suit some adults. Prime examples include those with deep grooves in their molars, those with a very high risk of cavities, and so on. Such patients would be much less likely to develop bad cases of tooth decay.

Dr. Saati can confirm your sealant candidacy at your consultation. Given that fact, please wait for his feedback before you make any treatment commitments.

If you receive dental sealants from Dr. Saati, you’ll enjoy benefits like:

  • Stronger Teeth – Dental sealants greatly reduce your risk of cavities. Once they’re on your teeth, you won’t have to worry much about decay!
  • Non-Invasive Care – Dentists don’t alter your teeth to apply dental sealants. Instead, they painlessly “paint” them onto your enamel.
  • Speedy Work – It takes very little time to receive dental sealants. In fact, a dentist can often apply them in under thirty minutes.
  • High Cost-Effectiveness – Dental sealants cost little in themselves, and they help you avoid pricier procedures like fillings and crowns. They’re thus highly cost-effective!
